Mercy the Vampire

The third in a series of songs based on New England ghost stories. This is the last one I have right now, but there are still a bunch of songs that need lyrics. I wonder if I could pull off the double album idea this year with one album being all ghost stories. Something to keep in mind. This one is about a vampire in Rhode Island.

The guitar parts in the verse and chorus were pulled from my January idea file so this one is not eligible for FAWM. I think my favorite part is in the guitar solo when the lead guitar (sloppily) doubles the rhythm guitar. I don’t think I planned to do that. The guitars are Gibson SG into a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

Mercy Brown wasn’t feeling well
She lay awake in her grave
She had a brother to help her out
a little more every day
In the night she would wander ‘round
and sneak inside while he’d sleep
She would feed on his life force
always so much to eat

Will it be good enough
to leave her face down
Or should we burn her to ash
and hide from the town

So maybe cut out the heart
or take off the head
you can never be sure
if they’re really dead

You can never be sure
You can never know
Are they really gone
or are they coming back
